Optimal Daily Schedule for Fife Homes

Grid charge cost (overnight): 9.5kWh × 8p = 76p/day

GivEnergy App Configuration for Flux

The GivEnergy app allows full battery scheduling. To configure for Octopus Flux:

  1. Open GivEnergy app → Plant → Settings → Battery Settings
  2. Enable "Charge from Grid" and set schedule: 00:00–06:00, target 100%
  3. Enable "Force Export" and set schedule: 06:00–09:00 (morning peak)
  4. Optionally enable second export window: 16:00–19:00 (evening peak — but only if battery has capacity)
  5. Set "Self-Use" mode for all other times (09:00–16:00, 19:00–00:00)

The GivEnergy inverter will automatically pause export if battery reaches minimum reserve (typically 4% or user-set level). This protects battery health.

When Flux Isn't the Best Tariff

Octopus Intelligent Flux is ideal for homes with solar + battery, but it's not optimal for everyone:

  • No battery: Without storage, you can't arbitrage the overnight/peak price difference. Standard Octopus Agile or Flux Export might suit better.
  • Low consumption: If you use less than 2,000 kWh/year, the standing charge (higher on Flux) erodes savings.
  • Wrong usage pattern: If you work nights and use most electricity 02:00–06:00, you're already in the cheap window — Flux offers no advantage.
  • Very large battery: If you have 20kWh+ storage and rarely cycle it, simpler tariffs may be easier.
